CSRT History
ABOUT CSRT
Since 1978, Cooper Spur Race Team has provided our community with a program designed to develop youth ski racing. It offers an ideal program for skiers of all ages who want to become expert, all-mountain, life long riders, while having fun and learning to compete.
CSRT’s coaching staff is dedicated to helping racers at all levels achieve their ski racing goals. However, excellence in skiing and competition is only part of our mission. Our programs help youth develop important life skills and values such as cooperation, teamwork, positive attitude, honesty, and dedication. We also pride ourselves in producing some of the top Mitey Mite racers in the Pacific Northwest. In both the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons, CSRT placed 5 overall (out of over 20 teams!) at the Buddy Werner Championships. In 2002 our girl's team placed 3rd. In 2003 our team became the Buddy Werner Champions for the Pacific Northwest Ski Association.
CSRT is not owned or operated by Cooper Spur Ski Area. We are an independent entity who conducts its programs at the resort and is supported by the ski area with grooming services, storage facilities, and trail closures for racing. CSRT is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) volunteer organization comprised of racers, their parents, coaches, and alumni. Program fees pay for approximately 75% of our expenditures. The remainder of our budget depends entirely upon fund raising activities, donations and corporate sponsorship.
CSRT has an average of 100 participants per season. We host 3 major ski events each year at Cooper Spur Ski Area or Mt Hood Meadows, drawing over 500 competitors and their families from all over the Pacific Northwest region.
